JAN OSTRY - FLUTE
Born 1972 in Prague (Czech Republic) where he began to play the flute and also studied at the Conservatory
(F. Malotin). From 1992 Jan studied at Conservatoire National de Region de Versailles (Ch. Rayneau and J. Royer),
as a holder of the grant of the Czech Musical Fund and A. Dvořák Foundation and in the following years thanks to
his good results as a holder of a scholarship of the French Government. In 1995 he was unanimously awarded the
First Prize (Gold Medal) of this Conservatory.
1996 - 1999 he was a grantee of the French Government at Conservatoire National Superieur de Lyon in the class of
Ph. Bernold and R. Thullier and he was unanimously awarded the First Prize of this Conservatory, too. He is a member
of the Atelier of XX. Century at CNSM Lyon.
In the course of his studies he gained prizes in various competitions (Concertino Praga, Competition of F.X. Dušek in
Prague, Competition of Czech Conservatories,etc). In 1991 Jan was invited by the European Academy of Music to take
part in its master class in Bonn ( K. Zoeller), in 1996 in the French-Czech Academy of Music in Telč (C. Novakova) and
in the master class of CNSM in Lyon (J. Zoon, B. Kuijken, A. Marion, K. Hunteler).
As a soloist or a member of chamber ensembles Jan performed in Linz, Lyon, Bonn, Paris, Stuttgart, Oslo, Prague
(a recital in the Czech Radio, Dvořák Hall, Martinu Hall) and in various festivals (Concertino Praga, Days of Chamber
music in Lyon, Young Prague, Mozartiana Iuventus Prague, (world premiere of a composition by S. Bodorová, complete interpretation of
W.A. Mozart flute quartets), Concentus Moraviae (with Prague Philharmonia and the conductor J. Bělohlávek), Week of Pierre
Boulez in Lyon, Czech Season in France 2002, Festival of Pierre Boulez in St. Etienne etc.
He co-operates on a regular basis with the Yehudi Menuhin´s foundation Live Music Now and with the orchestra
Bach Collegium Prague. From 1990 onwards he has been recording for the Czech Radio (C. Ph. E. Bach, I. I. Moscheles,
S. Prokofiev, F. Poulenc, contemporary Czech Music ...). In 1996 he became the youngest teacher of the flute at
Czech conservatories (Teplice).
In 1995 Jan recorded his first CD by A. Rejcha compositions for Studio Matouš. Another CD followed with
compositions by J. L. Dusík (Dussek) and earned The Prize of critics (Tip Harmonie) - September 1998. In the year of 2000 he participated in recording of Eva Urbanová CD for Supraphon.
Since 2001 he has been regularly teaching at master courses of the European Flute Academy in Fiss, Austria
and in 2003 he performed and taught at the Cultural Days in Neuberg, Austria.
In 1999/2000 Jan Ostrý was the flute solo in Orchestre National de Lyon (music director Emmanuel Krivine)
and he permanently co-operates as the flute solo with Orchestre des Pays de Savoie (CD recording "The Music
from Savoyan Court" under the baroque specialist R. Goebel). In the season 2001/2002 Jan Ostrý was the flute
-solo in Den Norske Operaen, Oslo. Since September 2003 he teaches at the Conservatory in Prague and Pilsen.
